We are a group of visual artists living and working on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound, Washington State. Though we work in many different media, techniques, and visual traditions, we share a fascination and on-going interest in surface design, the creative exploration of fiber, fabric and mixed media.
WISD members create wall hangings, contemporary quilts, hand-made books, encaustic images, fiber art sculptures, basketry and wearable art. We are weavers, mixed-media artists, photographers, dye artists, sewers, beaders, painters and more. Sharing a variety of artistic interests and techniques enriches our experience. Our work can be seen locally and around the region in galleries, retail stores, and museum exhibitions. Many of us have exhibited nationally and internationally.
Membership in WISD is open to Whidbey Island artists who share our artistic interests. Membership is limited to 35. We meet on the second Tuesday morning of each month. Those wishing to learn more about WISD are welcome to attend one or more meetings as a guest.
